Just wondered what prompted the change. I remember the previous Shades of Blue (bluey indeed) site and although a lot of the content has been ported across, there was far more on the older site. In particular there was much more interactive content, including a quite widely used discussion forum and what many would say was the instructive and often surprising Discs for a Desert Island (or something akin to that)! Shame to have lost all that, it has to be said…
To be honest Georgia, the tardiness of this reply rather aptly answers the question. I genuinely don’t have the time to keep up a full blown music website. In truth, I struggle to update even this personal one in any kind of timely fashion. I made the effort this last summer to produce the booklet as a kind of proxy for what Shades of Blue used to be. In all honesty though, the days of interactive blogs, forums and Desert Island Discs are now long gone. When it was in its prime, the site was top of the google search listings for any search on rhythm and blues or R&B primers. Do a search now and it wouldn’t get a look in, rather sadly – rather usurped by Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok and all the rest.
The Shades of Book might get a refresh though, if only to correct the appalling grammar, typos and occasional layout errors. No promises though 🙂
