Guernsey and York

A short break in Guernsey, enjoyed it as much if not more than the first time, despite the slightly inclement weather. And then a long weekend in York, accompanied by dawn to dusk sunshine…

Guernsey is a terrific place for a short break – excellent walking, heritage and museums for those who want to stay active, great coastline, beaches and food and drink aplenty for those who prefer to chill out. Got a mixed bag of weather on this visit but we did get a lovely day for the trip to Sark. Managed to walk the island (Great Sark to Little Sark and back) and still managed to find time to indulge in a couple of drinks at one or two of the very fine hotels on the island. Sark does appear to have a significant number of quality hotels for its diminutive size. Would love to go back there for a little longer – it’s pace of life, natural beauty and car free lanes and tracks almost seem to legislate for relaxation. Here’s to next time, maybe for a little longer.

Three days back home and then a long weekend with friends in York. Made the most of the wall to wall sunshine and spend much of the weekend wandering around the lovely town centre. Found a couple of excellent independent cafe/bistros for some very tasty, well prepared lunch and dinners (seems to be a recurring theme!). Didn’tt want to waste the weather so didn’t visit the museums as we originally considered that we might, which is a ready-made excuse to return. On the last morning we did get to the Merchant Adventurers Hall, which is beautifully restored and is definitely worth a couple of hours of anyone’s time. York centre was as beautiful as ever but it has to be said that the city is getting increasingly expensive to visit.
