Hi
I know I’m harking back a while and I could have misremembered, but I recall that on your full Shades Of Blue site you had a series of entertaining articles about your experiences of the Sheffield Mojo club. It was a while ago, my memory is little more than hope these days but I linger to the belief it might be true. If so, any chance you could add them to the R&B subset on this broader site??
Much appreciated
John Glover
Wow John, literally wow. You know the old Shades of Blue site almost as well as yours truly – and I wrote and managed it. Now I do remember the series of editorials on the Sheffield Mojo but when I did a quick review I realised they originally got published as early as 2007. What I also found out was that they weren’t tales of my experiences but those of a guy called Steve Bellamy who was, and I quote, “a fellow ex-Sheffield native (that’s Sheffield, UK!) with a wealth of stories around the music, lifestyle, the business that made rhythm and blues“. I was a little less concerned about provenance in those days, but I guess I must have been a bit more circumspect when I made the decision to omit the articles from the transfer to this site when I closed down Shades of Blue. It was difficult to engage with Steve – he introduced himself, wrote the articles and then, just as quickly, he was gone. I do remember them as being full of idiosyncratic material and very well written….
Anyway, long story short, I’ve pulled them out of the old site back up archives; I’ll review them and see if they merit inclusion and won’t result in me ending up in court! 🙂
Oh, and how come you remember an editorial series so much better than I do and yet I can’t remember or place your name from that time period?
Thanks for the message and hope it’s not another fifteen years!!
Regards
Hi John
Just by way of closure, I managed to also recover the messages that were originally posted against some of Steve’s articles at the time they were submitted on to Shades of Blue. I’ve transferred them over and kept the posters and timings intact – so, as far as possible, they are as before.
Hope they are as you remember them

Hi @redandwhiterag
Thanks for the positive response(s) and resurrecting the articles. Having re-read them all it’s good to report back – they are indeed packed with detail and seemingly very personal as well. I read some of the comments included with the original postings and it’s clear there were differing recollections on a few of the specifics. Well, I most certainly wasn’t there and for me the spirit of Steve Bellamy’s postings bring it vividly to life.
So, again, thanks for finding them and re-introducing them to those who were around at the time. Fabulous stuff!
Ok John, I found the articles, as previously mentioned and after a little pottering and research, the offending remembrances are now back on the site under “R&B Editorials”. In fact, the section is reinstated only to house the Steve Bellamy written memories. Forgotten just how really well written they were, even if I’ve got no idea whether or not Steve is still with us. I’ve sequenced them in the order they were originally published, so they can be read in the intended order. So, enjoy!
…..And if Steve is still around, why not drop us a line……..
