Annual Aldeburgh

For what has become something of an annual sojourn after the post Christmas festivities, we took our usual trip up to Aldeburgh, for three nights on this occasion. This time around it was the Brudenell hotel, and any cursory search on this site would tell you it is one of the three hostelries in the town that we have previously had the pleasure of staying at. Took the package deal that gave us evening meal on two of the three nights which, given the vagaries of the North Sea “breeze”, we thought was a sensible option.

In summary then, a stroll around the town the first afternoon, a small hike and then a traditional trip to the cinema matinee the next day and a longer walk on the final full day. Proud we could still do the walking but it has to be said we were both a ‘little’ shattered on our return. The film in question was “One Life“, the story of Nicholas Winton, who helped secure the rescue of 669 children, most of them Jewish, a feat for which later became known as “the British Schindler”. Anthony Hopkins played the older Winton and Johnny Flynn the younger as the story was told in sections covering the pre war efforts and the modern day ramifications. Winton is certainly worth celebrating and the film succeeds in dutifully hitting all the emotional high (and low) points but it does so in a somewhat perfunctory manner and is a little manipulative in its storytelling – although how you could not fall into that trap when telling a story of this nature momentarily escapes me 🙂

Breakfast please…

Anyway, all in all another lovely break, with good food and wine and excellent accommodation, with morning visits from the seagull I have elected to call Maurice!! Although I suspect he was less than enthralled with our response to what he considered perfectly reasonable requests for his room service breakfast…

Oh, and no photos (apart from this one, obviously).
