Another First

In February 2020 we met our friends whom we had first met on “Jewel Of The Seas” (2007), and we agreed to get together again in around six months time. We finally made it over two years later! We chose the opportunity to try a 4 night Centre Parcs break for the first time – sort of killing two birds with one stone, with the added bonus that this particular resort was around an hour away un Elvedon Forest near Thetford.

Happy Campers

We had a few activities pre-booked, including a quick game of crazy golf before we had even got into our accommodation, which wasn’t available until 4pm. We thought the golf was a good laugh and you wouldn’t guess from the photo that Mrs. No Name spent most of the next three days in bed (more later)! After we’d got in and unpacked (lovely apartment, spotlessly clean, wholeheartedly recommended), we met with our friends for coffee and arranged our first evening meal.

The following morning, did the obligatory walk around the Parcs environs, after which Mrs. No Name retired to her bed (exhausted) and started to cough, developed chest pains and was generally extremely unwell. Like a trooper she did get up to at least have a stab at the archery, but she was clearly in pain and after we’d finished she went back to the apartment and didn’t leave her bed until we had to check out and head home on the Friday morning. On Tuesday, I played Petanque with our friends (which we enjoyed) and on the Thursday morning I thrashed around the pitch and putt on my own, which was a little surreal, although the 3-3-3 finish for the last three holes cannot go by unnoticed!! We had looked forward to meeting up with our friends but sadly we got to see rather less of them than anticipated.

Mrs. No Name heroically managed to drive us home on the Friday (6th May) and, as I write this nearly two weeks later, she hasn’t been out of the house since, other than two brief visits to the GP Practice, where she was informed she had infections in both lungs and is currently on her second course of seven day antibiotics.

So, what of the Centre Parcs experience? The accommodation was excellent, virtually all the staff were friendly and attentive and the activities in which we participated were all fine. A few better quality restaurants would have been our preference but overall it was perfectly pleasant and I would imagine it would be absolutely superb for family get togethers and for kids generally. But, jaundiced by our own unfortunate situation, we would probably not return…

Took my Camera but, for obvious reasons, it didn’t get far!!
