After the experiment that was Covehithe, yesterday was the next enticing stage in the new normal, a trip to Audley End and to a meeting with friends. Audley was a compromise as it was equidistant for both and had the very real added advantage of being open!

Well, when I say open, I’m talking the gardens not the house; the latter was, like many grand homes of this nature, understandably still closed because of the reasonable phased easing of lockdown restrictions. Both couples therefore came well prepared, stocked with a picnic and assorted beverages. The weather proved to be kind, the gardens were lovely and although food outlets weren’t really back up to speed, we still managed to squeeze a coffee and then ice cream either side of the picnic. Lovely to be out and about again, a measured comeback and roughly around an hour or so from home.
