Birthday Break

Spent the night in yet another unknown corner of the world we’ve spent the last 20 odd years calling home. Decided to have an overnighter in Clavering in Essex. Went with friends and so we split the birthdays, post mine (6th September) and prior to my mate’s. We were initially drawn by the overnight stay and promise of good grub at the home of the parents of Jamie Oliver – the Cricketers pub with rooms. Board and food both exceeded expectations and a short stroll around the unusually laid out village also showed what a picturesque set of listed buildings were to be found in  the area. £1.3 million for the property across the road from the pub was a still a bit steep though 🙂

Finally made a stop off  at Saffron Walden on the way back home. A lovely town trail, innumerable listed buildings and a pleasantly gentle stroll made the 20 odd year wait even more of a broken bond with our initial commitment when moving down here from the North East. How much more is there to be discovered within an hour’s drive?
