First time at this event, drawn by the eclectic line up and mixture of the new and some stalwarts from the 60s and 70s. Held near Biggleswade (well, other side of the A1 at the Mansion House, Old Warden). Held over three days of the Bank Holiday weekend, how did it fare….

Cambridge Folk Festival
Only got there for the Sunday this year. Great weather, which was a plus as I remember wandering around in the mud a couple of years ago….
Ely Folk Festival
Enjoyed our first visit to the above. Couldn’t get full weekend tickets so went on the Friday night and the Sunday. Particularly looking forward to The Men They Couldn’t Hang who, sadly, proved to be the only real disappointment of the event.
Maverick Festival – 2nd July 2011
First time visitors to the Maverick Festival at Easton Farm Park – inexcusable really as it’s just a few miles up the road. Americana in Suffolk, great weather and lovely venue. And many highlights….

Back to Colchester’s Mercury theatre last week for the new Girl Talk show featuring Barb Jungr, Mari Wilson and Gwyneth Herbert. Bit concerned that this might be one for the fairer sex and the males were certainly the minority of the not quite sold out audience. Needn’t have worried…..
Show Of Hands at Snape
Great gig – excellent songwriting, fine musicianship, delighted to have finally got to see them. Had numerous opportunities, but always seemed to miss them for some reason or other. Not sure about the merging of ‘Country Life’ and ‘Captain Jack’; nice idea but I prefer an uptempo ‘Country Life’. Other than that, spot on! A word of praise for Miranda Sykes as well, filling out …
Peatbog Faeries at Snape
The Snape festival in July and August is always a bit more eclectic than its other seasons (i.e. beyond classical) and it always tends to feature the odd folk or folk/rock performance; and so it was that Peatbog Faeries played there last Saturday.
