Just back from our annual jaunt to the Channel Islands – this time Jersey, an island we haven’t been to for over 40 years! Thought it would be a good idea to compare it to its slightly smaller cousin, Guernsey to see if it could match its tranquillity and picturesque coastline.
We touched lucky with the weather and the hotel, which was excellent (Hotel La Place). After a brief wander around St. Helier, it was apparent that choosing an hotel outside the capital was an excellent decision.
From the hotel, we could walk to the impressive Jersey War Tunnels and a short bus ride took us to the North Coast bay of Greve De Lecq, from where we could take majestic cliff walks to the ‘Devil’s Hole’ and Plemont Bay. A couple of bus days allowed us to glimpse most of the other lovely bays, from the unspoilt to the well developed tourist beaches. All had their own unique charm and although the built up and to a degree somewhat spoiled St. Helier itself could not compete with the quaintness of the Guernsey capital (St. Peter Port), Jersey proved to be an equally fine choice for a relaxing, rambling, eating and sightseeing break.
