Probably not a bad idea to pick a man with passion and commitment to replace Speed. After all, he doesn’t have much to work with! But then again, it could be showing a worrying lack of ambition, given the talent available at the moment.
Will we Blades fans look back over the last three years or so and wonder how we deteriorated so badly in such a short space of time? Relegated somewhat unfairly from the Premier League by a whisker, we should have been well set up to consolidate and mount a challenge for a return to the top flight; and yet it has been pretty much a steady decline year on year.
Thought we might have gone after someone like Chris Hughton (or even Paul Hart) – no guarantee they would even entertain us, but did we even try? Still, it could have been worse, I did hear the faintest of rumours that Gary Megson was in the running. That might have been the appointment to break a lifelong allegiance to the Blades. But with Adams in charge, I’ll just have to continue to grin and bear it….along with around 25,000 others.
