Yesterday, popped down to London and appeared to be irritated by almost everything and everybody. Tolerance at low ebb, especially for people with limitless personal freedom and no reponsibilities.
The Grand Tour!!
Just back from a visit to Europe that included Barcelona, Venice, Dubrovnik, Split, and Lucca……very pleasant indeed. Of course, 200 odd years and more ago, I’d have had “father’s money” and my servants accompanying me on the journey but you can’t have everything!
Show Of Hands at Snape
Great gig – excellent songwriting, fine musicianship, delighted to have finally got to see them. Had numerous opportunities, but always seemed to miss them for some reason or other. Where now for the Blades?
A little surprised, but not dismayed, to see the departure of Kevin Blackwell from SUFC after only two league games of the new season. Managing the club in the current climate is not easy, but Blackwell’s tactical acumen was, to use a technical term, pants! Peatbog Faeries at Snape
The Snape festival in July and August is always a bit more eclectic than its other seasons (i.e. beyond classical) and it always tends to feature the odd folk or folk/rock performance; and so it was that Peatbog Faeries played there last Saturday.
A Real Sport….
Managed to catch the London triathlon on TV yesterday – what an excellent antidote to the nonsense that is Formula 1. The triathlon was all about individual competitors pushing themselves to the limit (and in Alistair Brownlee’s case a little beyond). No team orders, no large scale business interests, just, honest world class competitive sport.

As I was reading the detail around the proposed changes to my ex-employer the NHS, I began to cogitate on the wonderful, clean and transparent politics promised by the coalition – sad but true….

Murray and the Slams (Part Two)!
Have to feel for Murray at Wimbledon – incredible expectation, especially after England’s woeful exit from the World Cup, and always two of the potentially all time greats to overcome. Certainly didn’t go out with the whimper that betrayed the true worth of our footballing heroes.
So it’s all down to the Italian then…
England once again under perform at a major championship and the inquests and the recriminations begin. Almost churlish to add to the despondency but it is the British way!
Already the calls are out for Capello to be removed from office. As if that’s the major problem.
Colchester Theatre
Lived less than 20 miles from the Mercury theatre in Colchester since 1996 and finally got round to visiting! Well, it might have taken 14 years but at least we went twice in the space of 10 days or so…
Scottish Highlands
Three railway journeys, excellent scenery and it didn’t rain (well, not much anyway). Pretty good way to get a taste of the area for the first time….
