A lovely autumn day yesterday so, after Mrs. No Name’s morning merciless crushing of her opponents at tenpin bowling, we took the opportunity to cross another gig of the tick list with a visit to the Trust for Suffolk’s most famous equine. The Suffolk Punch Trust was established in 2002 and in 2010 after several years restoration work and the construction of a purpose built Visitors’ Centre, The Suffolk Punch Trust opened to the public…
It celebrates the history of the farm, its horses and rural Suffolk life and puts The Suffolk Punch Trust – Colony Stud firmly on the tourist map as a visitor attraction.

This was only a short afternoon visit so very much a cursory review of what’s on offer but it all looked particularly inviting. The café served excellent coffee (always a plus) and freshly prepared food, the Stables showed horses up close and personal, the farm had rare breeds of cattle, sheep, pigs, friendly goats and chickens and the Exhibition Hall had an excellent small museum of rural life. We also did a small sampler walk just to keep up with the exercise but they have at least three walks of different lengths for those who want to stretch out a little. All topped up with a visit to the National Collection of 20th Century Hardy Plants they call the Heritage Garden. Finally, the Equipment Barn contains the larger museum items – 60 plus horse-drawn vehicles and implements all in working condition and still used.
Yet another excellent local find and another worthy of repeat visits.
