The Blues Band – Snape Proms 18

Spent last night on the first of what I think are five visits to the Snape Proms this year. A return for the now ageing Blues Band and at least the second for us, a little like old friends! It has to be said, uncharitably I might suggest, that the gig was somewhat lacking in uplift. The post interval performance was a significant improvement and the set in the second half was noticeably fresher, but, despite the undoubted musical artistry on show, it did appear a little formulaic. I felt a little assuaged when Mrs. No Name said much the same at the interval, confirming perhaps it was one Blues Band gig too many. You can find the 2010 review here and to be fair, we’ve seen them on and off for at least eight years, so everyone is entitled to a night of mere competence. But at least we had one or two surprises in the second half, including Van the Man’s ‘Fame’ and a, let’s say, laconic take on ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’.
