First ramble of the New Year today. Coincidentally, it started from Newbourne Village Hall, which was the location for our first Ramblers’ walk in June of last year. Not the same walk though, this one took in lovely countryside, some estuary walking along the Deben and parts of Kirton. Strongly suspect we transgressed some local path closures along the estuary, although it wasn’t marked as such from our particular entry point – the fencing may have been a clue though. Parts of the walk involved some serious mud, but it was a bright day and an excellent start to rambling in 2015. Our first (half) year walking with the ramblers can be found here.
Walk 2 of 2015 for Denise (I wasn’t up for it) was a six miler starting and finishing at Henley. Only ten turned up apparently, possibly down to the very dull, miserable conditions and change of day for the midweek ramble
Finally got back on the Ramblers trail again today after a series of colds, flu and general unhealthiness. This one was a six miler around Purdis Heath and beyond. (in this case, ‘beyond’ turned out to be up to Foxhall and very close to home!). Despite the temptation to ‘do a runner’ (not practical as the car was three miles away), this was a pleasant reintroduction the walks, weather dull but mild and the terrain ideal for getting back into the groove.
Another 6 miler today, this time covering Dunwich Heath and some of its coastline. Freezing when we started (as it often is on that eastern coast), very pleasant when we got into the heath proper. Never walked the heath before, although we have flirted on its edges when we’ve been to Minsmere. Finished off with a Sunday roast at the Ship Inn in what’s left of Dunwich village (famous as the submerged village when a significant portion of what was then quite a major and important settlement was lost to coastal erosion).
Just Denise on the walk yesterday, a six miler based in the lovely countryside around East Bergholt
Managed to get to the Grundisburgh six miler yesterday. Very pleasant ramble around to Hasketon and surrounding countryside, followed by lunch in the Dog (that’s the local pub, not some kind of surreal art installation).
Walk 7 today (just Denise, as I battled a bit of a bad back and a raft of historical continuing care invoices) was a six miler and took in Battisford & Ringshall, villages not far from Needham Market. Very pleasant apparently, although a couple of climbs were a little taxing, especially for someone who isn’t really fully over the lurgi picked up in Japan
Walk 8 for Denise yesterday, this time she managed a seven miler around the Brightwell, Waldringfield and Hemley area. Hope to be back for the next one myself
Walk 9 (both along for this one) was a very pleasant six miler starting off at Tuddenham St. Martin and taking in Westerfield and the surrounding farmland and open countryside. Starting to warm up a bit now as well!
Walk 10 for Denise yesterday. Levington and surrounding area, with a pub lunch at the Ship afterwards. So, I missed both a good walk and a decent pint!
An evening walk in and around the Martlesham and Bealings for Denise last night. (Walk 11 of the year so far). I was in suffering with Andy Murray at the French Open
Evening walk for Denise yesterday around Woodbridge and Melton (Walk 12). Apparently a little warm for walking even in the cool of the evening!
Walk 13 for Denise today around the Framsden and Helingham Hall area. Walk had to be shortened a little due to unforeseen circumstances so ended up only being a five miler or so.
Walk 14 for Denise yesterday was a figure of eight 12 miler around the Snape area. Well, it would have been a 12 miler but as it was extremely hot Denise, along with about half the ramblers who went, sensibly decided to pack it in after the first section. Still a six miler or so…
Walk 15 for Denise today – A 6 to 7 miler around Alton Water, whilst I recovered from a heavy birthday, for which I blame a dodgy shellfish sauce. Apparently, the walk was a scheduled 6 miler but there were a couple of wrong turns to extend it slightly 🙂
Walk 16 for Denise today and I finally got back in the swing as well. A predominantly heathland six mile ramble around the Thorpeness area followed by a fine ploughmans and a pint of Woodfordes Wherry at the Dolphin pub afterwards
Walk 17 and a very pleasant 6 miler from Wrabness to Mistley, much of it along the banks of the Stour. Included a stroll past the House for Essex designed by Grayson Perry. Clearly belongs to a history of follies, and has its own back story created by Perry. Typical Perry, but it looks great in its Essex country setting. A few fellow hardy ramblers walked the return but we took the easy option and had an excellent lunch in Mistley and then returned by train.
Walk 18 for Denise today, a 6.5 mile country walk around Cattawade & Seafield Bay
Walk 19 for Denise, a seven miler around the Hacheston area, taking in some of the neigbouring villages such as Parham and Marlesford
Walk 20 for Denise. Another seven miler, this one close to home around the Playford area. Meanwhile, I was shopping and doing a little (very little) DIY.
